LanternbugA glowing caterpillar that secretes a sticky fluid to attach leaves or wood to its body, making it look larger. This bodily fluid is highly volatile, exploding when it is struck, acting as a self-defense mechanism. When applied, this explosive response to being hit helps mitigate some damage to the user.
AurortleA large tortoise with an anthill on its back. If you capture it, the anthill absorbs damage for you when you take a fatal blow. Aurortles and the ants that reside in the anthill have a symbiotic relationship where the ants protect the shell with their hill, in exchange for the tortoise's food scraps and excrement.

FlashflyWinged insects that emit a bright light when struck. To survive, Flashflies live together in a swarm and have a defense mechanism that allows them to emit a blinding flash if threatened, giving them time to flee to safety. The flash is so bright that it's possible to cause a large monster to flinch. Once the threat has disappeared the swarm will gather together again.

Their horns are so tough that they can even pierce the thick hide on the bottom of a monster's foot. They are often used by hunters as a natural trap or as a means to slow down or turn away pursuers.
BrewhareThis round rabbit may appear cute and fluffy, but its furry coat is actually made of mold. By allowing bacteria to grow on it, it gains an increased amount of nutrition from its food. Simply keeping this rabbit on their person can ferment a hunter's food for added nutritional value. As they are clever creatures, they usually escape their captors after a period of time.
TricktoadA frog known primarily for its distinctive red fins. It can puff itself up with pheromones to float like a balloon. Not one to shy away from confrontation, it instead spreads its menacing fins in a show of intimidation, even against much larger foes, though not always wisely. This show sometimes has the opposite effect, instead attracting predators. Thus, some hunters use it as a decoy, hence the name.
CutterflyA dragonfly with a sharp red tail that releases pheromones when under threat. During mating season, it rubs its tail on various surfaces to spread the chemical secretion. This action often cuts through fishing nets. As a result, Cutterflies are shrouded in superstition, particularly amongst fishermen. Breathing in the pheromone grants hunters increased concentration for a higher chance at critical hits.
GustcrabA terrestrial crab with mushrooms on its body. When attacked, it rustles its shell, causing the mushrooms to expel spores, which it uses for protection. It also feeds on insects that are attracted to fungi, forming a mutually beneficial relationship. The eyeball-like mushrooms on its back are extremely bitter and not suitable for consumption.

Their shells are covered in a type of dust that reacts to external stimuli, yielding a change in the creature's color. Upon impact, such as from a monster, the dust detonates. While this detonation will cause harm to creatures exposed to it, the beetles themselves are protected by their hard shells, and will simply flee.
Marionette SpiderClosely related to the Puppet Spider, these creatures are covered in blue hairs with a striking orange pattern. The silk they produce momentarily exhibits greater strength than that of the Puppet Spider. By utilizing this silk, it's possible to take control of a monster and force it in a desired direction. However, you can only control it briefly as the silk's strength does not endure.
